While Spirit Adrift made many take notice with their debut album “Chained To Oblivion”, it is on “Curse Of Conception” their stellar second album, and first with new label 20 Buck Spin, that the band has taken a giant leap forward in songwriting prowess, production and confidence. From the Metallica / Priest like opening moments of ‘Earthbound’ to the epic closing of “Onward, Inward”, Spirit Adrift are aiming sky high with burning focus and peak vigor.
The aforementioned ‘Earthbound’ is a standard bearer for album-opening songcraft, leading into the colossal title track, a grungy and twisting radio-ready crawler. ‘To Fly On Broken Wings’ & ‘Graveside Invocation’ continue to show that any of the eight tracks on ‘Curse Of Conception’ could stand as featured singles. Throughout the duration brick heavy riff assembly, somber southern atmospherics and grand melodies entwine flawlessly into perfect metallic majesty, exemplified succinctly and totally in the instrumental ‘Wakien’ for example.
With a host of fantastic albums released by their contemporaries lately, Spirit Adrift has taken their craft to an ascendent new level on ‘Curse Of Conception’ earning their rightful place among the top tier of modern metal bands clawing their way above and beyond the underground scene. Now more than at any time metal has become the lifeblood of rock music and Spirit Adrift offer ‘Curse Of Conception’ as an embodiment of that perseverant vitality. |

Support the You Aren't Alone Project during our live art event. A culmination of stories from people all over the world that are living with or supporting someone living with, and maybe even dying from, depression and anxiety interpreted by local artists through visual and performance art--the pain, the loss, and the triumph.
The goals of this project are to bring awareness to what living with depression & anxiety looks like; to break down stigmas surrounding mental health and the way we talk about mental health; and to, ultimately, form a social & physical network of ongoing support, comprised of survivors, those struggling, supporters and everyone in between. We'll also be working with local behavioral health professionals to offer mental health resources and continue the conversation once we leave.

10:00 PM |
Celebration of Music is a brand new PBS talent series that showcases and celebrates the best young musical talent present in America today, hosted teenage musical superstar Ethan Bortnick.
This is Kelley Dodson. I am an associate casting producer for a live concert at the Mid City Ballroom in Baton Rouge on August 25th, 2019, for Celebration of Music Talent Search and Concert.
We are looking for submissions for a talent competition, where the winner will get to go to Los Angeles to perform on a new National TV Show called Celebration of Music, which is distributed to PBS Stations across the country.
Please encourage anyone you know (25 and under) to apply . First, they will submit a video of themselves either singing, playing an instrument, dancing, or anything music-related to the link below and our creative producers will pick a handful of contestants to compete in the live show here in Baton Rouge.
From there, a winner will be chosen to go to LA for the opportunity to be in a live concert and TV broadcasting. While we can not guarantee that these persons will be picked for the live concert and TV taping in Los Angeles, we truly believe that you should encourage them to apply/fill out the form for the creative producers to consider them. Please have each member/person (or parents if they are under 18) apply separately and not as a group (unless performing as a band, choir, etc.). There is absolutely no cost for anyone to apply! All we will need is to see a clip of their talent.
The live concert and tv taping, in Los Angeles, will star, the PBS national artist, Ethan Bortnick who will be the host of this incredible program.
Below are some links and we wish you good luck! I attached two files: one being a flier in case you would like to post it around your business, and the other being where to include the code "Kelley Dodson" when applying.

From Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Jonathon “Boogie” Long was born with the blues coursing through his veins. Brought up in a Southern Baptist community, he first picked up the guitar at the age of six, teaching himself old gospel songs. Years later, a teenage Long found himself playing weekly gigs at blues clubs and events around town. At fourteen, he left school to lay down his roots touring with local legends Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor from 2003 to 2005. Additionally, he has toured with Chris Duarte, Kenny Wayne and Tyree Neal on the Chitlin’ Circuit. Boogie has shared the stage with standout musicians such as Dr. John, Rockin’ Dopsie, Monte Montgomery, Ellis Hall, Kenny Neal, Larry Garner, Henry Gray, Lil Ray Neal, and Lou Marini of the Blues Brothers Band.
In 2011, Boogie Long was crowned Guitar Center’s “King of the Blues” from a field of over 4,000 contestants, in the competition for #1 Unsigned Blues Guitarist in America (bit.ly/o013s6). Soon after, Boogie was sought out to film 2013’s “Boogie Blues Magic,” an instructional three-DVD set on which he shares his original tricks for learning fundamental blues styles (www.boogiebluesmagic.com). On another recent project, Boogie co-starred in the independent film, “We Be Kings,” a fictional story about an elderly couple that owns a juke joint in the Mississippi Delta.
Boogie currently fronts his own blues/soul trio, The Blues Revolution. His soul- stomping vocals and monster guitar shredding, paired with bluesy songwriting chops make his powerhouse performances a “must see.” In April 2013, Boogie was tapped by B.B. King to support his four week tour. Also, he was given a prime slot at the New Orleans Jazz Fest Blues Stage! Quickly ascending from Baton Rouge to the main stage, Boogie Long is on track with his lifetime goal of championing blues music and its roots. His debut record was released in April of 2013. |

Sometimes, a mystical, life-changing connection can be closer than you think.
In 2017, Grammy Award-winning guitarist/producer Adrian Quesada had recorded some instrumentals in his Austin studio, and he started looking around for a vocalist -- he knew a lot of singers, but he wanted something different. He reached out to friends in Los Angeles, in London, but nothing seemed right.
Meantime, Eric Burton had recently made his way to Texas. Born in the San Fernando Valley, he grew up in church and then got heavily involved in musical theater. He started busking at the Santa Monica pier, where he brought in a few hundred dollars a day and developed his performance skills. Burton traveled through the Western states before deciding to settle down in Austin -- setting up his busking spot on a downtown street corner, at 6th Street and Congress, for maximum exposure.
A mutual friend mentioned Burton to Quesada, saying that he was the best singer he had ever heard. The two musicians connected, but Burton took a while to respond (“My friends were like ‘Dude, you’re a mad man, you need to hit that guy back!’“) Finally, he called Quesada, and started singing to one of the tracks over the phone. “I loved his energy, his vibe, and I knew it would be incredible on record,” he says. “From the moment I heard him on the phone, I was all about it.”
The results of that inauspicious beginning can now be heard on the self-titled debut album from Black Pumas, the group that Quesada and Burton assembled, which has become one of the year’s most anticipated projects. Described as “Wu-Tang Clan meets James Brown” by KCRW, Black Pumas were the winner of Best New Band at the 2019 Austin Music Awards.
Quesada has a storied reputation from playing in bands like Grupo Fantasma and Brownout, accompanying artists from Prince to Daniel Johnston, and producing such acclaimed projects as 2018’s Look at My Soul: The Latin Shade Of Texas Soul. For the tracks that kicked off this project, though, he had a different direction in mind. “I was looking for somebody with their own identity,” says Quesada, “who liked Neil Young as much as Sam Cooke.”
Burton’s taste, range, and experience proved to be exactly what Quesada was seeking. “We just take to the same kind of music,” he says. “I listen to East Coast hip-hop, old soul music, folk music. When Adrian sent me the songs, it was like I had already heard them before. We were on the same wavelength from the get-go.”
The first day they got together in the studio, they recorded the dusty funk that would become the Black Pumas’ first two singles, “Black Moon Rising” and “Fire.” Quesada had written the music for “Black Moon Rising” on the day of the 2017 solar eclipse, and Burton took that concept and ran with it. “Right away, the hair stood up on the back of my neck,” says Quesada. “I knew, ‘This is it -- this is the guy.’”
Burton sensed the potential, as well. “When I saw that Adrian played with Prince and had a Grammy,” he says, “that he was a serious, respected artist, I knew that I would do my best not to squander that. If you can do it on the street, for a long time, without making yourself crazy, you can do it with a guy who’s won a Grammy.”
The duo also knew that they didn’t want their sound to be too retro or imitative. “We didn’t want to just do throwback soul and pretend that hip-hop never happened,” says Quesada, noting that it was listening to Ghostface Killah that initially triggered him to start writing this material. “It had to feel sincere coming from us. I have a certain aesthetic in the studio, Eric has a voice that evokes a certain era, but I don’t think we reference that too directly.”
“Adrian has had the time and the interest to really dive into a specific sound, to recreate something he heard on a Motown record,” adds Burton. “And because of that specific knowledge, he provides an interesting sandbox for me, whose background is in theater, to do something super-unorthodox -- to be an art student and play with all the colors I have, but to put it on something that’s more familiar to listeners’ ears.”
With Black Pumas having evolved from an idea to a session to an album, they decided to put a band together and see how this music sounded live. They booked a residency at C Boys (a sister venue to Austin’s famed Continental Club), initially playing every Thursday for a month. “We only rehearsed twice, we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into,” says Quesada. “But with the first show, we knew it was unique, special -- the chemistry and fire were there immediately. And what Eric could do as a frontman was like nothing I’d ever seen.”
As word got out, the C Boys shows turned into a local phenomenon (“the hottest party in town,” according to the Austin American-Statesman), with lines around the block despite the fact that the band had only released one song. The reaction to the group’s recent South by Southwest appearance helps explain the mania -- the Chicago Tribune called Burton’s performance “a whirlwind of movement and gesture,” while Rolling Stone, in naming Black Pumas “One Of The 30 Best Bands We Saw In Austin,” wrote that “the hometown six-piece’s grooves were funky in a thick, viscous way, oozing out in ambitious jams that wandered into heady territory without meandering” and praising Burton’s “tireless, charismatic energy.”
The other, unexpected result of the C Boys residency was that Burton presented more of his own songs to help fill out the set, which led Black Pumas into new territory. “Eric had all these other songs based on other styles, going back into what he was doing when he was busking,” says Quesada. “It was a real spark that we could huddle around him and his songs, too, and get a real sense of what our sound was.”
In fact, the final song recorded for Black Pumas was “October 33,” a tense, pleading ballad by Burton. “I didn’t feel like we had the right last song,” says Quesada, “we needed something with more of Eric on guitar. I said ‘I want to put down one more, do you have anything?’ and he texted me back exactly what I was imagining -- it was almost unspoken.”
Quesada and Burton both return, over and over, to this almost mystical connection they felt from the beginning. It’s this sense of common purpose, of shared vision, that gives Black Pumas its focus and power -- and that points to great things ahead.
“It’s so seamless, it’s like we’re musical brothers to some degree,” says Burton. “It feels so easy to meld together that what’s most important for us now is to continue to look for new sounds -- to make sure we’re feeding ourselves the knowledge to continue to evolve. Every time we get together, it’s better than the last time.” |

Ceremony’s lead guitarist Anthony Anzaldo doesn’t want to talk about the fact that his band has been around for over ten years. Or that they’ve drifted away from the hardcore genre that made them, or that they jumped ship from their long-time label, Matador Records, to join Relapse Records instead. Or that their sixth album will mark four years since the iconic punk band has released any new material. These things aren’t ?really? important. What matters is that ?In the Spirit World Now? is Ceremony’s most driving, intelligent collection of songs to date.
“We knew this had to be the best thing we have ever done,” admits Anzaldo. “We couldn’t come back after four years with a record that only had a few good songs.”
Produced by Will Yip (Title Fight, Circa Survive, Turnover) and mixed by engineer Ben Greenberg (The Men, Pharmakon, Hank Wood And The Hammerheads), In the Spirit World Now?? grows with each listen, balancing Yip’s pop sensibilities with Greenberg’s noise-punk influence through dramatic, shining synthesizer hooks and a mature vocal strategy. Drummer Jake Casarotti and bassist Justin Davis power through the 11-tracks as a strong yet sparse backbone that interlocks with guitarists Andy Nelson and Anzaldo to create a pop-centric, post-punk canvas for frontman Ross Farrar to expel the most vulnerable parts of himself. (And, thankfully, there are many.)
Farrar, who has been studying and teaching at the ?Syracuse University MFA Poetry Program? for the past three years, has found himself as a vocalist on ?Spirit World??, not only sounding more confident and in the pocket than he ever has before, but exploring amorphous lyrical territory about arrested development, botched relationships, and the never-ending hamster wheel of self-destruction so many creatives fall into.
“?I’ve been very interested in will, as in a person’s faculty of consciousness and how we navigate actions and self-control,” Farrar says. “I’ve been worried for a long time that my lack of self-control will inevitably destroy me, so any paranoia on that matter is focused on this record.”
Spirit World? is a carefully composed punk record by a band who is so in tune with one another as players that their physical separation didn’t affect the music when it came time to get together and work. Despite living in opposite ends of the country, they met up, rehearsed the new material, and demoed it out in Anaheim at a friend’s studio. After two weeks, the tracks were loose with Farrar only mumbling melody ideas on top of the band. A few months later, they linked up with producer Will Yip and he flushed out the demos, helping develop the structure as the songs took shape in the studio. To add some grit to their slew of polished post-punk hits, Anzaldo called on Greenberg to help develop melodies and interject synthesizers and keyboards into the songs before he mixed the record.
“We really took it song by song on this album,” says Anzaldo. “We pushed ourselves more than any other record. We didn’t have a lot of time together, so the time we did have was precious, and we were hyper-focused on making the best songs possible.”
Spirit World? ?is full of layered sonic fury and anxiety, each song building up to a point and then descending down through a militant hook. “Turn Away the Bad Thing” sets the tone, guitars climbing around the driving bass line, as Farrar sings, “?It’s getting harder for me to be alright/Eyes adjusting to the dark/The momentum of all these last resorts built inside of me.” Songs like “Presaging the End” and “Calming Water” feel romantic and distressed, while “Further I Was” and “Years of Love” are driven by Farrar’s rebellious energy as he repeats the hook with a deadpan realness. “Years of love can be forgotten/In the hatred of a day.” But the true stand-out is the title track, “In the Spirit World Now”, a haunting pop gem with a sticky chorus and lead synth riff that plants itself in your head as Farrar chants the track’s name over and over like a mantra. “The spirit world is a sort of nebulous and ectoplasmic place where things may not be quite what they seem,” he says. ?Spirit World?? marks a milestone for this legendary Northern California punk outfit who have stayed true to themselves as songwriters throughout massive sonic growth throughout their long, storied career.
“Not reflecting on the evolution of the band is what keeps us motivated,” Anzaldo admits. “There is always a song we haven’t written, a band we haven’t played with, artwork we haven’t thought of. We are creators by nature, not by choice. |

Eric Johnson is touring in celebration of his 1990 release Ah Via Musicom, which was certified platinum plus and launched Eric's signature hit "Cliffs Of Dover," which won the Grammy for Best Rock Instrumental Performance. Eric will be performing with an electric band at this show.
Johnson leapt to the forefront of contemporary music some 20 years ago as "an extraordinary guitar player accessible to ordinary music fans," as the Memphis Commercial Appeal hails him, with his landmark album Ah Via Musicom. Lauded as a "recording [that] has reached near-classic proportions within the guitar community" by All Music Guide, it was preceded by dedicated groundwork as a live performer that marked him as a talent bound for great things. And it's been followed by a diverse and fascinating musical journey that inspired The New Age Music Guide to rave that "Eric Johnson plays guitar the way Michelangelo painted ceilings: with a colorful vibrancy that's more real than life.” |

The Aquadolls were founded in Janurary 2012 by Melissa Brooks, the lead singer and songwriter for the band in La Mirada, California. Melissa began recording bedroom demos of her songs and eventually formed a relationship with Southern-California based indie label Burger Records, who released The Aquadolls 'We Are Free EP' in early 2013, and their debut album 'Stoked On You' in December 2014. In June 2018, Brooks made a comeback with the release of 'Bleach 7”’ on her new self-made record label, Aqua Babe Records. “Bleach” and “Runaway” were the first singles for the new album, followed by “Communicationissexy/idkhow2communicate” in September 2018. One month later, The Aquadolls highly anticipated second album “The Dream and the Deception”, recorded and self-produced by Brooks, was released October 28, 2018 on Aqua Babe Records. Having opened for the likes of Kate Nash, Vivian Girls, and The Raveonettes, playing festivals with Weezer, The Growlers, Cat Power, and FIDLAR, co-headlining a tour with SWMRS, as well as headlining a US tour and playing local California shows, The Aquadolls are in-your-face and good vibes all at once with energetic performances that leave you anticipating the next show. Brooks and her all-girl live band pack a punch with tongue-in cheek lyrics, hard-hitting licks, and soothing vocal harmonies that will guarantee a head bang from anyone listening. |

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Shannon and the Clams was formed by accident. Just outside the invisible borders of Oakland’s warehouse music scene, Shannon Shaw was absorbed in studying illustration at California College of the Arts, a 100-year-old institution that draws freaks into the city from across the country. For many, the school serves as a gateway into the sprawling music underground that agitates beneath the Bay Area, as a hub for fliers for illegal parties in backyards, basements, and overpasses.
During a bout of depression, Shannon took up a neglected bass guitar that had been a gift from an ex-boyfriend years earlier and played it for the first time, writing in a raw and untrained way. The urge to perform these songs soon took her to open mic nights around the East Bay.
“It was the perfect outlet,” Shannon says. “I never thought I’d be someone who played music, but one day I picked up this bass and started writing songs. I became addicted to it. It became my focus.”
Word got around that she was performing and the instigators of art school parties, always hungry for new talent, convinced Shannon to throw a band together and play. It worked, and it pushed her to aim higher, but the band was only meant to be temporary. Now, ten years later, her path has revealed itself and Shannon and the Clams are releasing their fifth album, Onion, this time collaborating with producer Dan Auerbach and his label Easy Eye Sound.
Over the last decade, Shannon and her chief collaborator, guitarist Cody Blanchard, have released four albums of 60s-inspired pop on indie labels, toured tirelessly and have gradually solidified a lineup of devoted Bay Area musicians, Nate Mahan on drums and Will Sprott on keyboards. Nate has played keyboard, guitar and drums in various Bay Area bands for a decade, and Will has served as front man and songwriter for his band the Mumlers and more recently his solo project, Will Sprott, releasing records on his own Hairdo Records. In this current iteration, Shannon and the Clams have developed notoriety for lively and genuine stage performances and a zealous following that craves their particular authenticity and innovation on classic sounds. Their last record, Gone by the Dawn, arrived in fall 2015 and took them to Coachella and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in the year following. On the album you can hear the band progressing from straight 60s-inspired rock and exploring their taste for psychedelic, dramatic throwback pop.
Shannon and the Clams had already begun writing for the Onion sessions in fall 2016, when their world was rattled by the Oakland Ghost Ship warehouse fire in early December. A total perspective shift followed and the writing changed direction. In the wake of the fire, the band looked backward at their origins in the Oakland underground and the importance of that world to their genesis. From where they now stood, they could recognize the community as a delicate incubator for fringe art, an unstable but nurturing place for performers to practice and cross- pollinate where there otherwise is no platform.
In January 2017, the band flew together to Nashville and over the course of ten days, fleshed out their songs with Auerbach at his Easy Eye Studio, where he helped refine and embellish the songs and steer the album. “He works in this very layered style,” Cody says. “He has all these instruments in the studio mic’d up at all times, ready to go. You can go back and add all these layers of instruments really fast and then cut stuff away in the mix.”
With Shannon and Cody focused on pinning down the meat of the songs and tracking vocals, multi-instrumentalists Nate and Will were free to compose arrangement and accompaniment ideas and background vocals. They explored the studio’s wealth of instruments and tapped into their own years of songwriting experience to ornament and color the tracks and lend a refined ear in the control room.
The song “Backstreets” is Cody’s response to the Ghost Ship fire, and particularly the issues of artist housing and being forced to make your own way in a society that is not arranged to accommodate artists. Album closer “Don’t Close Your Eyes” is Shannon’s response, an inspirational ballad urging those suffering through loss to not give up in the midst of tragedy. The theme of origin and introspection had already been at play on the album before the shift of focus to the warehouse fire in December, and other songs on the record deal heavily with self- searching and looking backward, but on a more personal level; discovering our own individual origins and the path that has led us sometimes haphazardly to where we find ourselves, from childhood to now.
“I had this epiphany that was likening an onion to being human and how you’re nothing without layers of experience,” Shannon says. “Each time you have an experience it creates another layer in the onion. And that layer sticks with you forever and other layers grow on top of it, sometimes unevenly. When you get introspective and try to unravel yourself, you’re digging through the layers. Every time you think you’ve figured something out there’s just another layer beneath it. And I wondered, what happens when you get to the bottom, the center, the beginning of everything when there are no layers? Is there anything left at all? It’s a bottomless endless chase of getting to know yourself. Each song on this album is about problem solving and having realizations about yourself.”
“People say that artists are blessed with talent and live enchanted lives,” says Cody. “In truth, being an artist is excruciating and there is no clear path for you. It is a struggle to find your purpose and support yourself while scratching that endless itch inside your head. A lot of people don’t make it, lose their minds, more or less, to depression, anxiety, resentment, drugs, as a side effect of that struggle.”
“It’s Gonna Go Away,” is the album’s biggest stylistic departure, mixing elements of soul, disco, R&B, psychedelia, the Zombies, chanting and baroque. It was written by Shannon and muses on the notion that all in life is temporary, the good and the bad, and finding comfort in that. Album opener “The Boy” is quintessential Clams. Written by Cody, it is a heavily 60s rock inspired track with a mournful hook that speaks about the way childhood experiences stick with and shape you, for better or worse, and hang around forever like baggage until you choose to lose them.
“I hope my lyrics can be an entry point for people into introspection and self-analysis,” says Cody. “There’s a stigma around it and there’s so much distraction available, but you’ve got to sort through the chaos of your personality. I hope people hear what I’m singing and give themselves permission to look around inside their own heads.”
“It’s okay for people to interpret the songs,” Shannon says. “You can put your own story into it if that helps you heal. I just want people to feel something, whatever it is. When I’m performing I make a point to always go back to the place emotionally of when I wrote the song and tap back into it. I try to stay really connected to the original feeling and I hope people can see that. I feel like people appreciate our genuineness. That’s the thread we’ve been able to keep this whole time and we’ll always stay true to that. |

Andrea Gibson returns to Baton Rougue to support their new book, LORD OF THE BUTTERFLIES.
In a fierce oscillation between activism and love, Andrea Gibson's newest literary triumph, Lord of the Butterflies, is a masterful showcase from the renowned poet whose writing and performances have captured the hearts of millions. An artful and nuanced look at gender, romance, loss, and family, this is also a book of protest. While rioting against gun violence, homophobia, and white supremacy, Gibson celebrates gender expansion, queer love, and the will to stay alive. Each emotion in Lord of the Butterflies is deft and delicate, resting within imagery heavy enough to sink the heart, while giving the body wings to soar.
Winner of the first ever Women of the World Poetry Slam in 2008, ANDREA GIBSON remains one of the most captivating performers in the spoken word poetry scene today. Known for pulling hearts out of chests to either wrench or kiss, Gibson has authored four full-length collections of poems, an illustrated book of their most memorable quotes (Take Me With You, Penguin 2018), and has released seven beloved albums. Gibson regularly sells out 500+ capacity standing room only venues to eager audiences, mouthing along every word, further popularizing the art form and creating a space for each person in the room to feel, and to heal.
"Gibson's poems...are forthright and pithy, putting into words the feelings of anyone who has
been angry, or outraged, or embarrassed, or in love." - STAR TRIBUNE
"Andrea Gibson is an amazing queer, spoken-word poet who can make you weep with a heart wrenching love poem and then swiftly inspire you to action with a powerful political poem." - Seventeen |

ALL AGES SHOW!
“People are always trying to figure out which compartment we fit into. They wanna put us on a shelf. But in a world of Sabbaths, we get to be Van Halen.” That’s Torche guitarist and producer Jon Nuñez talking about his band’s uneasy relationship with categorization.
Over the last 15 years, Torche—led by the core trio of Nuñez, guitarist/vocalist Steve Brooks and drummer Rick Smith—have often been saddled with one-dimensional niche terms like doom, sludge or stoner rock, but none of them really apply. “That shit is tiresome,” he says. “When people ask me what kind of music we play, I just say, ‘Loud rock n’ roll.’” Which is a good way to describe Torche’s fifth and latest album, Admission. From the rumbling cannonade of opener “From Here” and chunky bomb-string detonator “What Was” to the staccato siren song “Reminder” and glistening thunder pop of the title track, it’s a record that manages to be hi-powered, dynamic and melodic—all at the same time. “To me, it’s a real record with peaks and valleys and emotional ups and downs,” Nuñez offers. “Musically, the intensity doesn’t stay in one lane.”
Nuñez says Admission’s musical range—and Torche’s unwillingness to be pinned down—is a result of the band’s wide spectrum of unlikely influences. “I feel like we all listen to so many different types of music, but not really much within the realm of
what we’re considered to play,” he explains. “We like 70s rock, shoegaze, ambient music, obscure noise, and stuff we grew up with like Latin or Hispanic music. All of us grew up in Miami during an interesting time, so there’s all kinds of things that
drew us in.”
Behind the scenes, Torche underwent some lineup changes in the wake of 2015’s Restarter. First off, Nuñez switched from bass to guitar. To fill the bass position they enlisted Eric Hernandez of Miami noise-rockers Wrong, who joined the original
Torche triumvirate in time to play on Admission. “We knew right away that Eric was the guy,” Nuñez explains. “He’s bailed us out on drums before when Rick had some health issues. Now that this is the lineup, things are easier. No one needs to be told
anything, and everyone’s excited.”
The fact that Nuñez switched to guitar during a short break between tours didn’t slow Torche down in the least. “We bounced back pretty fast,” he confirms. “I jumped on guitar in nine days and we did a whole US tour. I was so nervous at that
first show that I got a headache onstage. But then you ease into it and it feels right.”
With the band’s members spread between Florida and Los Angeles, Torche got together whenever possible to work on the songs that would become Admission. " I think the only two we wrote on the spot were ‘Extremes Of Consciousness’ and the closer, ‘Changes Come,’” Nuñez explains. “We wrote some in Gainesville, some in
LA, put one together in Colorado and a couple other ones came together in Miami. It was exciting to do things differently and it kinda kept us on our toes.”
Writing in different locations also allowed the band to get together more often than they had been able to for Restarter. “The way Restarter was put together was kinda nuts,” Nuñez explains. “It was written in two weeks and then recorded in two weeks.
It was a little stressful. I wanna say we got together four times for this record, which was twice as much as last time.”
There was also an abundance of material to work with this time around. “Steve was writing stuff, Eric was writing stuff and I was writing stuff,” Nuñez says. “We just honed in on what would make a cohesive record. It ended up being three songs from
each of us, and the others are collaborations. It was a real group effort.”
Admission also marks just the second time Torche have actually printed their lyrics in an album sleeve. “Usually Steve’s lyrics make sense to me in some sort of abstract way, but this album has some more personal stuff in there,” Nuñez point out. “It’s a cool little insight into Steve’s twisted head.” In fact, Admission might be Torche’s most personal album yet. “This album is more revealing of who we are,” Nuñez offers. “I think the core of the band is happier and more inspired than we have been in some time, and we’ve got somebody new who’s excited to be a part of it. It’s just refreshing. On tour, we wanna play the entire thing because we stand by this shit. It feels right. It feels real.” |

Cody Riker, best known as saxophonist and vocalist for the now-departed Wisebirds, is getting back to his Baton Rouge roots- but glamming it up bigger than ever with inspired solo performances and a new single “Last Dance.” Riker was born in Baton Rouge, but lived a transient life moving between many different states. He began playing saxophone and writing poetry as a child and, influenced by such artists as Fiona Apple, Nine Inch Nails, Elton John, and Depeche Mode, became more and more entwined in the world of music, eventually starting a band, experimenting with other instruments, and playing house shows while pursuing Music Education in college. Riker is newly energized by finding home again in the Red Stick, seeing beauty in the cultural diversity and the resilience of its people. His deeply personal, but highly danceable songs are mostly inspired by the need to process his emotions, confessing that, “I often think my way right out of a feeling, and the music reminds me to let my emotions take form and space in my body.”
You can see Riker debut “Last Dance” and other songs from his indie-pop repertoire on November 16 at Mid-City Ballroom alongside other glam acts such as 1800-HUGME, sora, and drag provocateur Pxssy Delish |

The Iceman Special is a 4 piece outfit transplanted from the swamps of Louisiana to New Orleans. They create a sound that resonates with the psych rock community as well as writing songs that explore reggae, funk, melodic pop, prog, and other influences. The bands live shows are notorious for their intensity and their use of innovative and creative visual stimuli while also taking pride in song writing and the delivery of their message. Screeching yet smooth guitars, wandering yet punchy bass lines, synthesizers, driving drum beats, and powerful vocals form a one of kind soundscape.
“They don’t wear their influences on their sleeves, their original songs are too good for that, but the indicators are there. The production is strong and unlike so many bands that are unable to translate their live energy to a record, the Iceman Special gets the job done.” – The Vinyl District
“The band rocks and lays down such fat, solid slabs of rock ‘n’ roll that if they are not careful, the audience can trip on them and fall a long joyous time.” – David Kunian – Curator – New Orleans Jazz Museum and Louisiana State Museum |

How does a kid born in Concordia Parish, Louisiana, and raised on catfish and venison in Callahan County, Texas end up playing Greune Hall at the age of 22? Ask Garrett Bryan and he’ll tell you it’s a long story. Listen to his music and it becomes obvious https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHZsrQZx5cM&list=PLwj4e7M3fRnJntrvUvC0urwxikjoZZdis.
Garrett’s two year touring experience with Callahan Divide helped him understand that the relationships between an artist, the venue, and the audience are sacred and should be based on honesty, passion, and mutual respect. The payoff is a kinship with the house that recurs with every encounter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-X4I_j6U4vw.
The bottom line is that Garrett Bryan knows who he is, and he’s a good man. He also knows that hard work and keeping your word are the keys to success in the music business. He loves what he does because he has a story to tell. Perhaps the most important part of all this is that Garrett Bryan understands the timbre of a heart--and audiences know it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ViwmgrBAA8. |

After leaving a career as mechanical engineer in Boston to focus on art and sculpture, Tristan Shone, the
creator and sole artist behind AUTHOR & PUNISHER, moved west to pursue his MFA in Southern
California. In the metal and machine shops of University of California, San Diego, Shone forged a
relationship with design, sound and fabrication that ultimately yielded AUTHOR & PUNISHER‘s first
music which mapped the journey away from traditional instrumentation towards custom made,
precision machinery. Shone used his technical knowledge, along with his artistic background to create
what Wired Magazine has hailed as his own “special brand of doom metal”, using these custom “Drone
Machines”.
All aspects of the AUTHOR & PUNISHER sound begin with physical movement, limbs struggling in unison
to coordinate a wall of electronic rhythm and oscillation, ultimately conditioned by an organic and loose
quality absent of plastic perfection. AUTHOR & PUNISHER performances are a real amalgamation
between man and mechanisms. They are direct, physical, heavy experiences that have amassed praise
and intrigue from a wide array of audiences. Pitchfork styled him “immediate but mysterious,”
Stereogum described his “chilling, unrecognizable form,” and NPR hails him as “a thrill [who] fires on all
cylinders”.
Now in 2018, AUTHOR & PUNISHER delivers his sixth full-length recording and Relapse debut Beastland.
A robotic experimentation in industrial metal, noise, doom and drone, AUTHOR & PUNISHER recalls Nine
Inch Nails channeling Godflesh, traversing through dark, uncompromising, and often disturbing
soundscapes with occasional detours into rich melodies and splinters of light. Armed with newly built
“Drone Machines” and a new label, Beastland is AUTHOR & PUNISHER’s career-defining statement and a
powerful listening experience that further blurs the line between man and machine.
“I built new machines for this album to make more aggressive and dynamic music. These devices are
compact and powerful, made from robotic components, intended for high energy repetition. I, as do
many others, feel rage against the Beasts of our era: those who horde, who poison, or who discriminate.
We need aggressive music to make an aggressive statement. Beastland is an introspection of who we
are as a human race. At a time when we have the tools, the intellect, and the history to remind us how
to treat each other and the earth, we go far out of our way to feast on the less fortunate and vulnerable,
disregarding the atrocities and lessons of the past.“ |

AJJ – Good Luck Everybody
AJJ frontman Sean Bonnette can summarize the band’s new album, Good Luck Everybody, in a single sentence: “Sonically, it’s our least punk record, and lyrically, it’s our most punk record.”
And indeed, Good Luck Everybody (January 17, 2020), the Arizona band’s seventh album, stands out in their already diverse catalog. While still rooted in the folk-punk sound AJJ has become known for, the album is unafraid to delve into new territories that test the limits of what the band is capable of.
“I think it explores some of the weirder sides of AJJ, the more experimental leanings that we’ve had in the past,” says bassist Ben Gallaty. Good Luck Everybody draws from a wealth of sonic inspirations, from Laurel Canyon folk-rock of the 60s and 70s to avant garde artists like Suicide, as well as some orchestral pop. There is even a piano ballad, the tragic “No Justice, No Peace, No Hope.”
Lyrically, Good Luck Everybody is a change of pace from the idiosyncratic songwriting style Bonnette has honed over more than 15 years fronting AJJ. It still features his wonderfully weird turns of phrase and oddball word pairings, but this time, his thematic lens is more directly focused on the inescapable atrocities of the world around him. Longtime fans will recognize the album’s social commentary as a return to their 2011 release, Knife Man, but this time it’s fueled by a more radical urgency.
“I usually try for a timeless effect in songwriting, so that you can hear a song and generally not think about the context under which it was written,” says Bonnette. “But for this one, I was trying to write, and all the bad political shit just kept invading my brain and preventing me from writing that way. So I decided to fully embrace it and exorcise that demon.”
Much like Woody Guthrie and Phil Ochs pulled their songs straight from newspaper headlines, Good Luck Everybody feels like a long scroll through social media feeds on a particularly volatile day.
The song “Mega Guillotine 2020,” for example, came directly from Twitter. It was influenced by Twitter funnyperson @leyawn’s popular tweet depicting a mockup of a French Revolution-style guillotine with one blade and enough headrests for 15 Congress members. Bonnette says the idea inspired him to press record and start playing, and when he did, the entire song came out of his brain fully formed. The final version also features backing vocals by Kimya Dawson.
“There’s something that comes along with scrolling through your phone on Twitter or Instagram and seeing a puppy, and then a joke from a comedian, and then a young black person being shot by police, and then another puppy, and then your friends announcing a tour, and then children in cages,” says Bonnette. “There’s something in that that fucks your brain up. I don’t know if it’s made me more of a passionate arguer or just made me confused and numb.”
On “Normalization Blues,” Bonnette laments what this never ending deluge of atrocities has done to our humanity: “I can feel my brain a’changin’, acclimating to the madness / I can feel my outrage shift into a dull, despondent sadness / I can feel a crust growing over my eyes like a falcon hood / I’ve got the normalization blues, this isn’t normal, this isn’t good.”
Later, on “Psychic Warfare,” Bonnette takes out some aggression on the man at the root of it all, albeit through his trademark polite aggression: “For all the pussies you grab and the children you lock up in prison, for all the rights you roll back and your constant stream of racism / For all the poison you drip in my ear, for all your ugly American fear, I wrote you this beautiful song called ‘Psychic Warfare.’”
After years of partnering with Asian Man Records and SideOneDummy Records, AJJ is releasing Good Luck Everybody on their own, via their new label AJJ unlimited LTD, with Specialist Subject Records handling the European release. Bonnette and Gallaty also produced the record themselves and, in addition to their usual cast of collaborators (Preston Bryant, Dylan Cook, Mark Glick, Owen Evans), it features guest appearances from Thor Harris, Jeff Rosenstock, and Laura Stevenson.
“One thing that makes me rather giddy is that without a label or a producer, our listeners will have no one to blame besides us for the way our sound has changed,” laughs Bonnette.
For all of its dark leanings and its pessimistic reflections on modern culture, AJJ hopes that fans will ultimately come out of the album in a hopeful place. By its final track, “A Big Day for Grimley,” it feels like AJJ is holding the listener’s hand, staring at the looming apocalypse ahead, and whispering a message into their ear: Good luck, everybody. |

Durand Jones & the Indications aren’t looking backwards. Helmed by foil vocalists in Durand Jones and drummer Aaron Frazer, the Indications conjure the dynamism of Jackie Wilson, Curtis Mayfield, and The Impressions. Though their aesthetic is steeped in the golden dreaminess of early ‘70s soul, the Indications are planted firmly in the present, with the urgency of this moment in time.
Their most recent album, American Love Call, is a sprawling and limitless equation. Fleshed out by the elegance of strings, a chorus of backing vocals, and an ambition to prove and push themselves, the split leads between Jones’ husky howl and Frazer’s dulcet falsetto lend a dynamic punch to the group’s timeless sound. |

Formed in New Orleans in 2017, Jank Setup gained their reputation packing raucous college house parties. They have since transitioned to playing sold-out gigs at established venues while still bringing that same jank energy. Their explosive live act brings together potent, yet sensitive vocals laced with tight-knit rhythmic grooves, complemented by colorful brass harmonies.
Not only is Jank Setup inspired by the classic sounds of soul, funk, jazz, and hip hop made famous by Michael Jackson, Earth, Wind & Fire, and James Brown, but also the modern sounds by the likes of Anderson .Paak, Vulfpeck, and Tom Misch. Jank Setup continues to celebrate their idols whilst simultaneously carving a path solely their own.
According to band members, the sound of Jank Setup can be likened to a hearty beef stew of funk and R&B, seasoned with soul, and garnished with jazz. Their support of international acts such as Galactic, Detroit Swindle, & The Stoop Kids as well as their upcoming Southwest and East Coast tours marks their progress as emerging artists. |

Inspired by the progressiveness of indie rock staples like Built to Spill and Death Cab For Cutie, PHONY keeps an even keel by combining that with the classic sensibilities of Nirvana and Weezer’s Pinkerton. The subject matter covers everything from love, trust, psychedelics, anxiety, alcoholism and lucid dreams that feel much like the songs themselves.
After building a strong following in South Louisiana with his band of seven years, Donovan Wolfington, Neil Berthier has moved toward this new spark of creativity in Chicago. He is now on tour with a full band to support the release of their new record, “Songs You’ll Never Sing.”

The Suffers are...
Houston's award-winning 8-piece ensemble that have redefined the sound of Gulf Coast Soul. Established in 2011, The Suffers’ lineup was curated by bassist Adam Castaneda and vocalist/keyboardist Pat Kelly, who brought on trumpet player Jon Durbin, trombonist Michael Razo, guitarist Kevin Bernier, percussionist Jose "Chapy" Luna, and drummer/vocalist Nick Zamora filled out the rhythm section, while frontwoman Kam Franklin topped off the group with soaring vocals.
The last 2 years have brought the band to new heights, as they played 300+ shows across North America, visited NPR in Washington, DC for a Tiny Desk Concert, made their national television debut on Late Show With David Letterman, and officially released their much anticipated self-titled album followed by performances on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah and Jimmy Kimmel Live.
This year they will embark on their first international tour and spread the sweet sound of Gulf Coast Soul across the Caribbean, Western Europe, and Australia. The Suffers have quickly progressed from packing Houston venues to accepting invitations nationally for featured performances at notable festivals and events, all while still remaining a local Houston favorite, accepting 23 Houston Press Music Awards in the last four years. |

From the banks of the mighty Mississippi, Joystick! doesn't merely play Ska and Punk - they inhabit it. Built on laser tight rhythms, infectious vocals, and a fierce brass section, Joystick calls up the spirit of 90's ska/punk while still retaining a strong sense of their New Orleans roots, creating a unique sound all their own. Bombastic but never pretentious, fun but never lazy, intense ...but never serious, Joystick combines Ska, Punk, Hardcore, and Jazz to create something that's genuinely lacking in a great deal of modern music: joy.

"Neutral Snap has a sort of throwback sound, doused with remnants of the 2000s radio punk. They meld pop punk, hardcore and rock into a sugary hook machine, sprinkled with allegedly humorous lyrics about life relationships." - New Noise
Go For Gold (Arkansas)
Go For Gold, a pop-punk band from Central Arkansas, was formed in 2017 by lead guitarist/ vocalist Jared Williams and lead vocalist Spencer Vinson. The band quickly gained a following in their home state with their first EP “Stranger” in 2017 produced by Dalton Kennerly, who has been their drummer for the last couple of years. With the addition of bassist Jager Felice and guitarist Aaron Paul, Go For Gold has continued their successful career with many releases including their latest debut studio album, “Cope”, in March of 2022. On stage, Go For Gold has carried the momentum of selling out their first show ever at Vino’s in Little Rock, AR back in September of 2018 to gaining quite the following on a national scale over this last year of touring. Their shows are full of energy built off of their poppy riffs and catchy choruses that’ll create an amazing atmosphere wherever they play. Go For Gold continues to create great content for their fans on all platforms from the songs they write to social media and their live performances. As they continue to grow, you can expect to see them in more and more destinations as they tour across the United States and to a city near you.

Danielle Nicole Schnebelen's Musical influences originate from generations on both sides of her parent's families, and ensured that a love of playing music would continue to be passed among her and her siblings.
Nicole began singing publicly with her parent's bands as a youth and took ahold of her full time in her early 20s. "My Father really loved the Blues. He'd go to all the true Blues guys that were around in KC, specifically Little Hatch. He'd played for Abb Locke (saxophonist for Muddy Waters) and we'd get brought along sometimes. The pure, raw emotion relayed through the Blues was what really drew me to it. Its history is the foundation of American Music and is THE one that must be respected and not buried as myth or legend."
As a founding member of the "Heavy Blues" sibling band Trampled Under Foot, she and her brothers took top honors at the International Blues Challenge in the US, propelling them into Canada, Scandinavia, Europe, UK and to be featured on several Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruises. It wasn't until 2015, when Nicole set out on her own with over a decade of touring experience with the release of "Wolf Den" recorded in New Orleans with Anders Osborne, that she began to find her sound as an Artist all on her own.
Nicole's "distinctive, inventive bass work"which resulted in her not only becoming the first woman to ever be nominated in the category of Instrumentalist ~ Bass in The Blues Foundation's 2012 Blues Music Awards, but also the first woman to receive the honor twice -"is the product of years of intensive roadwork. Although she had no experience with the instrument when she became Trampled Under Foot's bassist, now Nicole can't imagine life without it."
Nicole's 2017 release of "Cry No More" ushered in not only a heavier sound and style differentiating Nicole's already broadening voice and writing, but also accrued a slew of accolades including debuting at #1 on Billboard Music Chart, a 2019 Grammy Nomination for Contemporary Blues Album; 2 Blues Music Awards, one for Contemporary Female Artist and her second Instrumentalist ~ Bass, and 3 Independent Blue Music Awards.
Nicole has continued to tour the world and hone her sound. She's recently received her 6th Blues Music Award; most notably her 4th for the category of Bass Instrumentalist. "To be recognized for artistry on my instrument, for bass as a woman, is extremely humbling. I was shocked to find out I was the first woman ever nominated, but I'm glad that the steps are happening and it's process is becoming more inclusive in genres that have traditionally been reserved for men." |

LISTEN
The Hickoids are a long running Central Texas band that trace their roots to the early
80s Austin punk scene that spawned greats such as Scratch Acid, The Offenders and
Butthole Surfers. From their cowpunk beginnings the band has morphed into something
that contemporary listeners will recognize as “roadhouse punk.” The band combines a
flair for showmanship, a never lost irreverent attitude and musical adeptness that allows
them to fold a lot of different Southern American roots styles into a sound that is
uniquely their own. Hickoids are equally at home in a blues club, a country bar or the
punkest of punk dives and since reforming in the mid/late 2000s the band has played
over 800 shows in at least half the 50 U.S. states, Canada and ten European countries.
They’ve shared the stage with everyone form Nine Inch Nails to The Old 97s, The
Flaming Lips to The Flamin’ Groovies, Roky Erickson to Lucinda Williams and a whole
lot of folks in between.
Their most recent single ‘Almost Nearly Nancy’, a yarn of unrequited love on the edge of
an apocalypse, is a bouncy two and one-half minute slice of protopunk that has western
edge and a classic feel. The tune was recorded back in 2019 with producer Mike
Mariconda at Sol de Sant Studio in Barcelona and finishing touches were recently
applied in Texas. It has quickly become the band’s most streamed song to date on
Spotify. Critic Tim Stegall of the Austin Chronicle says: “Austin's kings of punktry &
western drop an immaculate raunch bomb on their way outta town, escaping the Delta
variant-fueled Stage 5 pall for some mid-South touring. ‘Almost Nearly Nancy’ snarls
through layers of post-Keef guitar grind and prime wah-pedal abuse, as Jeff Smith lets
loose his best lonesome polecat strut: "I've seen your face airbrushed on the side of a
van/ With the words below, 'She'll destroy a man'/ I believe you can." This single's
everything the Rolling Stones haven't been since “Exile on Main St.’, and all Primal
Scream's wanted to be their whole career – best Hickoids record ever!” |

Best known for his electric guitar skills, Johnson is also a highly proficient acoustic, lap steel, resonator, and bassist, as well as an accomplished pianist and vocalist.[1] He plays many musical genres, including rock, blues, jazz fusion, soul, folk, new-age, classical, and country.[2] Guitar Player magazine has called him "one of the most respected guitarists on the planet."[3]"

The Completely Un-True Story of Minos the Saint
Every nine years, King Minos had a dozen plus young spirits cast into his famed labyrinth to feed the Minotaur, a metaphor of man vs wild manifest into a horrific monster. Of course, we only know this story because of the heroics that led the youngsters back out, newly wizened with the Knowledge of the Maze. In that way, Minos gave them the greatest of gifts.
One does not really know the members of Baton Rouge's Minos the Saint survived the beast, but one quick listen reveals their mastery of the labyrinthine. A chamber-folk group, if you must, Minos the Saint is a windswept charm assault, a romantic tornado of violins and accordions, French horns and trombones and guitar, the heart of the beast cast into the heavens as a sonic constellation. They are very good.
If one must grasp for comparisons, they are like Simon and Garfunkle at their most intricate amended to include Antonio Jobim and Philip Glass and Van Dyke Parks and maybe a wizard. A handsome wizard with a past and a future in your heart.

To put it into terms of simplified complexity, Elanore Swede is 6-pieces of psych/prog
weirdness nestled full of ear worms, that can go from catchy synth jams to de-tuned
blistering thunder on a dime, while still having time to mix up Latin grooves with spaghetti western licks, post punk vibes, old school punk hat tips, reggae drops, beautiful piano passages, jazz flavors, metal mania, psychedelic improvs, and anything else they can think of to create what is known inside the band circle as “the treatment”. The result, Elanore Swede —— whether you like 4 minute bangers or 12 min epics, buckle up, dig in, enjoy trip.

Hello Baton Rouge Friends and Lovers of Live Music! We are super excited that several friends of Shedrick Nellon are coming to rock out with us to help raise some cash to support Shed at this time.
Two weeks ago, while on a gig at a Casino in Lake Charles, Shedrick Nellon suffered a major heart attack. Luckily, because he was at the Casino, paramedics were nearby and able to bring him back after he flatlined. He was placed in a medically induced coma and put in a ventilator for several days in the ICU, but eventually woke up and is now recovering at home and slowly but surely stronger.
As you can imagine, the medical bills for his care are already stacking up and without insurance, he is 100% liable to cover those expenses. In addition, he will not be able to maintain a full gig schedule to provide income during his time recovering from such a major medical event.
Shedrick is a world-class bass player and a staple in the Baton Rouge live music scene and he needs the help of our community at this time! So, if you love live music, and lending a helping hand, please join us at Mid-City Ballroom for this awesome event!!
**It's Tuesday, what else are ya going to do?!**
Mid City is BYOB, so plan to bring your own dranks. We are working on food and raffle items and will update this invite as things solidify!
Excited to party with ya'll, sing some tunes, and enjoy this amazing line up of musicians to support our good buddy Shedrick! |

Bill Nace is an artist and musician based in Philadelphia, PA. He has collaborated with an extraordinary range of musicians, including Michael Morley, Graham Lambkin, Matt Krefting, Twig Harper, Jooklo Duo, chik white, John Truscinski, Thurston Moore, Jake Meginsky, Jessica Rylan, Paul Flaherty, Wally Shoup, Aaron Dilloway, and Kim Gordon, with whom he regularly plays as one half of the duo Body/Head. In 2020 Nace released the critically acclaimed solo record "BOTH" on Drag City. A collaboration with Gordon and Dilloway -- "Body/Dilloway/Head" -- is out now on Three Lobed Records and his newest solo LP Through a Room was released last November on Drag City.
He has been a featured musician in festivals such as ATP (curated by Jim Jarmusch and held in Monticello, NY), Colour Out of Space(Brighton, UK), Supersonic Festival (Birmingham, UK), International Festival Musique Actuelle (Victoriaville, QC), and Homegrown (Boston, MA). He has performed in a wide variety of venues, running the gamut from the Musee d'Art Contemporain (Strasbourg, France) to The Stone (NYC) to Bennington College (Vermont). Nace’s range has been described as “veering from sculptural, almost Remko-Scha-esque chime to Loren Connors-style elegance in only a few short moves.” (Mimaroglu Music, 2010).
In addition to Drag City and Three Lobed, recordings can be found on Ecstatic Peace (Northampton, MA), Ultra Eczema (Belgium), Holidays (Italy), Throne Heap (VA), HP Cycle (Toronto, ON), as well as on Nace’s own label Open Mo

BIO:
One of the most outstanding instrumentalists in rock over the past 40 years, Texas guitarist Eric Johnson was already a legend before he recorded his first album. By the early 1980s, many celebrated guitarists were singing the praises of this skinny kid from Austin with the mind-melting chops. Comparisons were made to such guitar heroes as Jeff Beck and Jimi Hendrix and when he joined the ‘70s Austin fusion band Electromagnets they were being hailed as “the Mahavishnu Orchestra of Texas”. With the release of his highly-anticipated 1986 solo debut album Tones, the underground guitar legend finally emerged onto the scene fully-formed. It landed him on the cover of Guitar Player magazine, which hailed the album as a “majestic debut”, and earned him his first Grammy nomination for the song “Zap”. With the release of his follow up album, 1990’s platinum-selling Ah Via Musicom, which contained the Grammy Award winning song “Cliffs of Dover”, Eric Johnson became a bona fide international guitar phenomenon.
The New Age Music Guide once opined that “Eric Johnson plays guitar the way Michelangelo painted ceilings: with a colorful vibrancy that’s more real than life” while Rolling Stone included him in their list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of the 21st century. A dynamic singer as well as an incredibly gifted guitarist, a pianist and a prolific songwriter, Eric has been featured on the cover of countless guitar magazines around the world while also racking up critical accolades along the way.
Since 1986 Eric has released seventeen albums, in addition to albums with other artists such as Eclectic with jazz guitarist Mike Stern, and the platinum-selling G3 Live with Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. Eric has received eight Grammy nominations along with numerous other recognitions, awards and wins in various polls and magazines. Among Johnson’s many accolades are a GRAMMY award in 1992 for “Cliffs of Dover” as Best Rock Instrumental Performance, lifetime induction into the Guitar Player Gallery of Greats, and his listing among the “100 Greatest Guitarists of the 20th Century” by Musician magazine. In his hometown of Austin Texas, a city full of guitarists, the readers of the Austin Chronicle voted Eric Johnson the city’s “Best Electric Guitarist” and “Best Acoustic Guitarist” in their yearly poll year after year. They also named him “Electric Guitarist of the Decade” and one of the top five “Musicians of the Decade”. In February 2024 Eric was honored with induction into the Texas Heritage Songwriters Association Hall of Fame.
2023 found Eric on his ‘Treasure Tour’, 67 US dates that were split between a Spring and a Fall tour. In January and February 2024 Eric joined the ‘G3 Reunion Tour’ with Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, and the resulting new live album from the tour will be released in late 2024. In August 2024 he heads out for a run of dates in the north and northeast including the Backroads Blues Festival in New York. In September and October 2024 Eric will be a featured performer on the ‘Experience Hendrix 2024 Tour’, crossing the country from Washington state to Florida.
Over the course of more than four decades, Eric Johnson has been traveling on a prolific odyssey. Along the way, his creations have cross-pollinated the various musical genres which include rock, blues, jazz, fusion, soul, folk, new-age, classical, and even country. Inevitably EJ says it best himself in sharing that regardless of the genre “It really boils down to the music and the song at the end of the day”, he explains. “The most important thing for me is to grow musically and make a more expansive and meaningful artistic statement with every new project”.

Today, Bob Mould announces a 2024 fall solo tour through New England, the Midwest, and the Southeast in that order. The tour will take place through September and October.
In conjunction with the tour announcement, today Mould also releases a live recording of a new unreleased song “Breathing Room (Live Solo Electric),” his first since 2020, and one of many new songs to come.
“I’m looking forward to bringing even more new material to everyone this fall. Generally speaking, the new compositions are brief, catchy, and simplistic in structure. The focus of this writing cycle is memorable pop songs, and I can’t wait to test drive the new work in this stripped down Solo Electric setting!”
– Bob Mould
Listen to “Breathing Room (Live Solo Electric)”
The past year has seen Mould receive recognition for his outstanding career which started in 1979 fronting the seminal punk band Hüsker Dü, with Spin Magazine naming him among their “100 Greatest Rock Stars“, and Rolling Stone including him in their “Greatest Guitarists of All Time.” |

Thomas Eugene Stinson (born October 6, 1966) is an American rock musician. He came to prominence in the 1980s as the bass guitarist for The Replacements, one of the definitive American alternative rock groups. After their breakup in 1991, Stinson formed Bash & Pop, acting as lead vocalist, guitarist and frontman. In the mid-1990s he was the singer and guitarist for the rock band Perfect, and eventually joined the hard rock band Guns N' Roses in 1998.[1]
Stinson released his debut solo album, Village Gorilla Head in 2004 and subsequently joined Soul Asylum for the completion of their album The Silver Lining, and was a member of the band for the album's tour in 2006 before joining them as a permanent member until 2011. He released his second solo album, critically acclaimed One Man Mutiny, on his own Done To Death Music label in 2011.
Stinson left Guns N' Roses after touring in 2014 and was replaced by the band's original bassist Duff McKagan. In 2016 he reunited Bash & Pop, and released a new album in 2017, titled Anything Could Happen. |
